Favourite Douglas Adams quotes on Life the Universe and Everything:
42 is the answer to the question of life, the universe and everything
" He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose is was and whether they were enjoying it."
"For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man-- for precisely the same reason."
There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
"Life is wasted on the living"
"You live and learn. At any rate, you live."
"Life.... is like a grapefruit. It's orange and squishy, and has a few pips in it, and some folks have half a one for breakfast."

The meaning of life is relevant to what you or how you think. In life there are a vast amount of different opinions so by the time you answer the question you will probably ask why you asked it in the first place ( of course that is if your not made to believe what someone of authority tells you) -_- ya didnt have to say you failed 9th grade 4 times then again I came to the realization that no matter how much we learn its meaningless in the face of death ( currently that is lol)

The Meaning of life is to reproduce and evolve for the next generations to come. To ensure the survival of your species, you evolve. You become smarter and more intelligent, thus increasing your survivability against natural dangers. Humans are on the peak of the evolution scale. We will evolve and reproduce more and more. We will eventually gain vast amounts of knowledge and seek more. We will seek out the vast universe to ensure our continuety. That is the meaning of human life.

From an atheist's perspective, I would say that once you find the meaning of life you would have a life of meaning. What's meaningful to you or me, may not be meaningful to another. Therefore, there's really no right or wrong answer. So explore and try to find what's personally meaningful to you. This can sometimes be a bit more than an intellectual exercise; since some life experiences both negative and positive, can directly or indirectly lead you to finding what's truly meaningful to you. Also what's meaningful to you now, may not be so in the future. So allow this purpose to grow and change, alongside your evolving perspective and understanding. From a spiritual perspective, I imagine what it must have been like before God/Goddess/Creator/ etc. created the universe and other beings. If this is the case, it must have been terribly lonely. So perhaps this being created us for companionship, which may be one of multiple purposes/meanings. Who really knows for certain and with solid proof, I guess we'll find out after we kick the bucket.

meaning of life? ask whoever said 2012 is the end of the world and then find out the #1 goal of humans is to actually shoot a giant missile at the North Star and watch the fireworks.

Well, I've found some interesting quotes that I'll share, I guess.
"When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice."
"When you discover your mission, you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm and a burning desire to get to work on it."
"When you have a sense of your own identity and a vision of where you want to go in your life, you then have the basis for reaching out to the world and going after your dreams for a better life."
"When I hear somebody sigh, "Life is hard," I am always tempted to ask, "Compared to what?"
"When it is dark enough, you can see the stars."
"When it's all over, it's not who you were. It's whether you made a difference."
Just food for thought, really.
I personally still think about the purpose of life. I really don't think that I will ever understand.
