Before we make any sort of official announcement of this upcoming warrior tournament (see lotrconquest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lotrconquestdiscussion&action=display&thread=794 ) I'd like to discuss and agree on the rules. My suggestion is:
- All matches must take place in a public server (ranked/unranked server on Xbox 360 or an EA server on PS3) OR in a private match (friend server on PS3) HOSTED BY A THIRD PARTY.
- All matches are "first to 10" with respawn (winner of each fight respawns so that both players always start with full health and equal power).
- Before each fight, players must "dance" (repeatedly press LT/L2) to indicate they are ready to start (OH YES! THERE WILL BE DANCING!).
- The loser may request a rematch in the case of a close game (7-10 or closer) and may also select a different map if desired.
- Heroes are not allowed (we could have a separate hero tournament though...)
- Horses/wargs, Oliphaunts, ballistas, etc. are not allowed.
- A Mithril Knights member should be present for all matches (though this need not be strictly enforced.. we just don't want people we don't know showing up with BS results that nobody can verify)
- You may not leave the arena during the fight (there's no penalty, but just don't...). Acceptable arenas are: Rivendell waterfall, Osgiliath bridge, Helm's Deep throne room, Mines of Moria hall (CTR mode)
- If a fight is interrupted, e.g. some random person starts attacking you or one of you falls over an edge, the fight must be started over (that is, knocking somebody off the edge does not count as a kill).
- The results of all matches (including rematches) must be recorded and will be made public on this forum. The final result of a match is based on the number of kills listed for each player, NOT the team score that shows up in the corner of the screen. If the match is played in TDM mode, set the max. number of kills higher than 10 so the match doesn't immediately end at 10 (and you have a chance to write down the score).
The third-party host requirement is to avoid "host advantage" - the fact that the player hosting a private match / friend server has significantly better response time than the other players who connect to them (even if THEY don't feel lagged, the host still has a very real advantage).
I am suggesting the "respawn" rule for two reasons: Firstly, it is Xbox 360 "tradition", secondly it means if you get interrupted you can start a fight over without skewing the overall results. This is especially for PS3 because 75% of people have trouble connecting to friend's servers, and server-hopping is the only alternative. For example, if you were playing in a public server and somebody came in and interrupted your fight, you could start the fight over in a new server. Respawn does bias the result in favor of the winner, but should not affect the overall outcome of a match to 10.
We also need to decide (a) how we will match people up (b) when the matches can take place. Once we've had this tournament and have a "ranking" it will be possible for anyone to challenge another warrior for his rank. (We may need a separate ranking for best statistics vs. current 1v1 champions). I suggest we have 2 days a week when at least one Mithril Knights member will be online and new challenges can take place - Perhaps Wednesday and Saturday afternoons?
Please discuss...
