For those of you who haven't heard of it yet, MAG is a massive multiplayer online shooter. How massive you ask? 256 (128 vs 128) players massive.

Basically, Zipper Interactive (the producers of the Socom series) decided that shooters were getting a bit repetitive in their execution, so they decided to just blow the whole thing up and create a game with larger battles than ever before seen.
The 128 people on each team are split into four 32 player platoons, which are further split into four 8 player squads. There are squad leaders, platoon leaders, and an Officer in charge. All of these players are normal players on the battlefield, and are decided by the game based on their proven abilities.
While many people seem to think that refusing to take orders will be a common problem in the game, it seems like Zipper has offered strong incentive to follow your leader. Basically, you are buffed considerably when you are near a squad leader, and you receive bonus experience when you successfully complete objectives set out by your squad leader.
There are three playable factions in the game: Raven, S.V.E.R, and Valor. You will have to pledge allegiance to one faction at the beginning of the game and you'll have to play with them exclusively. You will be allowed to change your faction at a later date though (though, presumably, you will be penalized by loss of rank if you do so, maybe even having to start all over as far as rank goes). Each faction has a distinct personality, and it seems that Zipper wants you to actually feel some real allegiance to the side you choose.
Raven currently seems to be the most popular faction, for rather obvious reasons. They wear a lot of black, they're sleek, and they sport state of the art weaponry (the game takes place 20 years from now. No lasers, but it's still pretty advanced). A lot of their weapons are European-style weapons that are currently in the development stage. Zipper describes them as a precise and clean organization that are kind of the elite special forces guys.
S.V.E.R currently seems to be the least popular faction, though they'll probably appeal to more people that don't necessarily follow the production of unpopular games. They're basically a collection of rag-tag home-grown soldiers that don't have a lot of money, but they have a lot of passion. Their weaponry seems to be older-fashioned Russian weapons, AK-47s and whatnot, but Zipper insists that their lack of sophisticated weaponry is balanced by their adaptability (whatever that means). They have a really rusty appearance and seem to be more of a punk kind of army.
Valor is basically the faction that brings a traditional military feel to MAG. If you remember the whole squad from the movie Predator, those guys are basically Valor. Their weapons seem to be like modern American army stuff, which could be appealing to fans of modern shooter games like Call of Duty. These guys are basically the stereotypical tough guys. They're buff, they're armed to the teeth, they have beards, and they come from Alaska, what's not to love?
The character customization of the game seems to be very in-depth. You can customize the appearance of your character, his gear, and even his voice.

So, for those that do know about the game (or now know about the game from this topic), which faction do you want to play? I'm currently leaning towards Valor because I love playing the manly man tough guy (my planned character is huge, black, and has the deepest voice possible). If not Valor, then I'm going to pick SVER because they look pretty cool too. On principle, I refuse to play Raven under any circumstance. They just seem like the most popular faction because everyone is like "omg black armor is so cool lol". I figure it'll also be the most popular faction with those annoying 10 year old kids with mics that are all over Call of Duty. Yeah, I'd rather not deal with them.
So, post here if you're interested in the game. I'd love to have some games I can play with you guys even when Conquest loses its thunder.
