The Hobbit movie is in the works and it is going to be split into a 2 parter. The first part will be released in the winter of 2011 and the second part will release winter of 2012. Peter Jackson will not be directing it but will be overseeing the production.
There is also rumors that there will be a bridge movie between the hobbit and lotr trilogy. Hugo Weaving will be back as Elrond!

There has been a bit of buzz about it locally. The second movie is not a bridge movie. The original idea for the hobbit was to make one movie as a prequel. However after storyboarding it apparently there will now be two movies to ensure the story of The Hobbit is told in full.
Apparently there will be no accompanying game with it but I'm quite keen to see who they cast. I know Ian McKellan is coming back as Gandalf and Hugo Weaving but that's about the only confirmed casting. Oh and Andy Serkis, but I have no idea if he's playing smeagol/gollum or some other computer generated character.

Andy Serkis wants to reprise his role as Gollum, he stated that, and i believe the famous Gandalf will be back for the hobbit. Christopher Lee expressed an interest in playing Sarumon, but would be uncomfortable to fly back to New Zealand at his current age. Too bad about the game, i hope they change that though, two hobbit games would be better
