See title. I turned it on this morning and the disc symbol was there, but whenever I tried to load it, it returned some error to the tune of "Could not start the game" (or something). It also wouldn't eject the game, but it did when I turned the PS3 off. When I put the game back in, the little "reading" symbol came up in the corner of the screen but the game never showed up in the Game column. All my downloaded games work, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the disc reader, right? It wouldn't read a CD either.

Yeah, I had the same problem except mine happened after about 10 minutes of game play or blu-ray watching. I would load a map and start playing and then the sound effects would stop and I knew when the map was over the game would freeze. I think the ps3 has some quality issues with the disc drive. I just gave it away and bought a new one, but I bet it's not that big a deal to get fixed. Same problem with trying to eject it too. Had to power off(manually) then it would come out.

You either buy a new ps3, get a good blue Ray drive and replace it, or send it to sony. I recommend getting a new ps3 but make sure u back up your data.

Thats a bummer Joppi. Same thing happened to a work buddy of mine. He opted to find and buy a blu ray drive off the internet. I think he spent like $80 for it. He hasnt recieved it yet to see if it works, but it does require taking the beast apart. Which voids the warranty. He is not even sure if it will work because there is a seperate component that controls the drive which could be the problem too. So yeah, weight the options you have. Best bet is to buy new or send it in to sony. Good luck. PS3 Disassembly Tutorial

Update The guy recieved the blu ray drive, installed it, and it works perfectly. He spent eighty bucks and a little bit of tinkering time to achieve the success. He said its not hard to take apart the ps3, a few screws, a plastic tab, and a ribbion cable, all with a small screwdrive and a pair of needle nose pliers. I understand that it is unconfortable to even think about taking the ps3 apart, but know it can and has been done many times. PS3 Disassembly Tutorial

One of my PS3s started doing this a while back. I had to send it back to sony and basically the laser had failed. They gave me a new PS3 and refurbed my old one for resale. Good luck dude... I don't think the prognosis is good either way.

Dang sorry to hear that Joppi. I know my PS3 typically gets really hot, so I wonder if this could be a potential cause? BTW - thanks for all the tech advice Adhanedhel

I thought about it possibly over-heating, since I'd been playing Fallout 3 for almost 4-5 hours a day for nearly the entire week before it stopped working, but it hasn't started working since it broke, even though it's been idle for most of the time. So, unfortunately, I don't think that's the case.
