I have only done a few 1 vs 1 battles where half the time I actually do ok lol...but I really enjoy them mostly because I learn so much in that short amount of time. Without any other people interfering it is much easier to focus on what you are doing and what the opponent is doing of course. I would like to do more of these if anyone is interested.

Warrior 1v1's are the only ones that are worth while - as far as learning new techniques and counters are concerned. Even then, they DO get boring. After 10 kills or so...I end up wanting to put the sticks down because it just gets redundant.
The Mage is all about who throws their lightning the fastest and with the greatest precision - while keeping a safe distance. The shield, firewall and shockwave play roles, but really...it's all about the lightning. BM is the best with his lightning. He's the only Mage that's ever given me any trouble.
Scout and Archer 1v1's are of no interest to me - for reasons that have already been stated.
All in all, I agree with Hanz in that it does not test overall skill (team skill). For...this is a team game. However, as far as the Warrior is concerned, 1v1's can be an invaluable learning tool.

joppi - it seems to me that it is whoever is faster and more accurate would determine an archer ditto, and considering those two aspects pretty much epitomize the skills an archer should have I don't see how that isn't an accurate representation of relative skill.
But I wasn't speaking only about dittos, indeed when I made the post I was thinking 1v1 between any two classes, which is why I discounted the usefulness of 1v1s for scouts (since they can't contend well against the other classes).

The archer ditto primarily tests speed and "general" accuracy, not the pinpoint accuracy required of an archer in a normal battle. You don't need to hit the person to knock them over or poison them, and it's not hard to put your cursor where their head is going to be once they get up from their fall. Well, in archer vs anything else, yeah, it is an alright evaluation of an archer's skill, but it generally focuses on close-range combat as opposed to long-range, which is the position you'll most likely want to be in a real match.

That makes sense. The only thing I disagree with is that you will be fighting mostly close range. While that is true if you're fighting a mage, against warriors (and to a certain extent scouts) you usually have plenty of time to snipe them while they try to close the distance (unless you spawn next to each other, which is less likely with the varied spawns in tdm).

It depends on the level. I'd favor the warrior in Osgiliath every time. If you fought on Pellenor or something, then, yeah, they'd have a big disadvantage.

Warrior 1vs1 sessions are a very effective means of training in my experience, provided the opposing warrior is very skilled. It's a great way to not only learn new techniques, but how to practically apply them in battle. Warrior can take the most beating out of any class (not including mage heal) so the object is to try and kill him as quickly as possible while using fewer but more powerful moves (shoulder bash, critical ax, fireslash etc). If you can take out a warrior in just a few movements just think of what you can do with a soft pulpy mage or archer. The core of gameplay finds us facing many enemies at once and this is one thing 1vs1 can't train you for. Being aware of those around you, setting up your next ax throw on one enemy while attacking another, intense dodging and such are skills that fighting multiples will give you. It all makes you better, but in my opinion, the most important thing a warrior needs to learn is how to kill mages as quickly as possible. But I'm like Hanz in that I don't really care for doing 1vs1's myself.

I didn't mean to say 1 vs 1 have no merit, but at the end of the day they just aren't for me.

Ya burnz, occasionally, I'll play conquest so I can fight 4+ mages at once. It's really making it easy to kill multiple enemies.

i find with warrior killing multiple mages at once is easier than 1v1. there was a conquest black gate where me, gig and cat tooth were playing and my warrior ripped through thee whole good team.

yea you and yash beat me with warrior.thats yall best class.but the way yall play is pretty much the same.yall run around until yall axe build up to hit me with it.but a real good warrior to me is one that stands there and fight until his axe build up like me.it makes the fight long and boring when i have to chase you around most of the match.and like i said i play in all classes.not just YOUR best one.then at the end of the battle we tally up the score of all classes to see who is the victor like me and demontouch did.
