I'm gonna assume Brawl, because thats the only one with online. I used to play tournaments with my freinds on melee, and it can be fun to play online with your freinds on brawl, but its impossible to meet new people and etc.

well, nintendo fucked up royaly with their online, but in this case that's rather irrelevant seeing as brawl sucks.
I love melee, but all of my friends don't want to play anymore, which sucks since the replay value is in the multiplayer. I still follow the melee scene though, somewhat.

I watch competitive Melee like a sport, but I'm not that great at it myself. I'm not a fan of Brawl, but I do like Brawl+, especially since I have a ton of texture hacks and am in the process of replacing the soundtrack with my own songs.

Brawl+ is a hack of Brawl that fixes the terrible engine and gives the game more competitive potential by balancing the characters and fixing the camping-oriented gameplay at higher levels. The game plays faster, is far less clunky than Brawl, has actual combos, and allows terrible Brawl characters like Captain Falcon and Ganondorf the chance to be good characters again.
Additionally, hacking Brawl opens up the ability to use File Replacement, which allows you to replace various things, like texture hacks that change the appearance of characters (one of my Ikes looks like Cloud from FF7, one of my Captain Falcons looks like Obama, and another one looks exactly like the melee version of Captain Falcon, etc), stage hacks that can change the appearance of a stage, and music replacement, which allows you to put any music you want into the game.

I'm don't know many of the specifics, since I wasn't the one who set up my Brawl+, but in general: 1: Install the Homebrew Channel. I honestly have no idea how to do this, but check this site or Smashboards for tips. hbc.hackmii.com/2: Get USB Gecko for your Homebrew Channel. Again, not sure how, but I think it's relatively simple. 3: Get an SD card and download the Brawl+ Codeset onto it. Details: brawlplus.net/install-guide/I think that's the basics. There's a lot of guides for how to do it online if you look hard enough. But, be warned that installing the Homebrew Channel invalidates your Wii warranty, I'm pretty sure, and you'll want to turn off Wii-Connect 24 to avoid downloading patches that'll mess Homebrew up. So, if you're not going to play Brawl all that much anyway, and otherwise value your Wii, it might be advisable not to get Brawl+. I didn't really care since I only use my Wii for Gamecube games and now Brawl+.

hm..I don't know for sure since my friend hacked my wii and did all that stuff for me, but I'm inclined to believe that a block on downloading channels won't stop you from installing homebrew.
