LOTR was my first online game too. My first impression of the people I met playing it was, "Wow these people are waay cooler than my realfriends!" I think that this was partly because I lucked out and met some very cool people, and partly because my normal friends bug the shit out of me.. After spending more time at it though, I came to realize that that wasn't completely as true as I thought it was. The internet has just as many assholes and idiots as normal life does. There are however several very important differences. My internet friends don't eat up my food, drink up my alcohol, and trash my house. And if they piss me off all I have to do is turn off my playstation. ;D On the other hand, if I want to actually hang out with them I have to spring for expensive airplane tickets and travel thousands of miles... The best solution is probably to have both. Always good to have lots of options! But it definitely also helps to have common interests so you have something to do... Besides that.. in my experience.. the easiest way to get over a serious addiction is to replace it with another addiction! Which is why I think it would be a very good idea for us to shop collectively for a new LOTR. I know that nothing will ever be able to replace LOTR in our hearts but it would be good if we could come up with something else that we like so we can still play together. SO KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN!!!PS- thanks Rizen! Those were good suggestions and the second one especially looked cool.. but unfortunately I don't have a computer right now that's smart enough to run games (.. or really do anything) so for the time being it's either PS3 or nothing for me...

I have Mount & Blade for the PC and played a bit of it, it was ok but I was still obsessed with Oblivion, and then LOTR Conquest came out....... and well all else has failed to capture my interest or my heart. Maybe on March 17 I'll dust off Mount & Blade and see if any magic happens.

Sorry you guys are feeling down about LOTR.
Truth be told, conquest was doomed from the start. The demo did so well but it was just a shame the final release didn't reflect the same interest. If they [pandemic] had released the version they were planning to do with Pandemonium mode and 32 vs 32, the game's fate would likely be something different... however it was panned by all major game reviewers, one even rating it 3 out of 10. You can't fight that kind of bad publicity.
But now isn't the time for "shoulda-coulda-wouldas".
While not my first online game, LOTR did allow me to meet and make some awesome PSN friends and it will always have its special place with me, even though I don't play it as much these days.
As for being depissed or angry about it, play it while you can as often as you can and enjoy the good times while the servers are online. Don't mourn for it while you can still play it. Then on March 17, the day after, you can drink yourselves silly on St Patricks day.

Yes I find myself a little more moodier than usual, which being a red headed female can be pretty scary in the first place. I have been trying to enjoy my time in Middle Earth even as bittersweet as that is, it's just for whatever reasons the Gaming Gods have decided to set the furies upon my internet connections (my internet provider did check it out & nothing was detected wrong with it) and cause such lag that playing is rather difficult. The ground is jello, all wiggly and I go through either slow motion or jumpy speed up which results in my demise. It's adding insult to injury and just making me that much more frustrated and angry. Sigh.... I know in the greater scheme of things that it is JUST A GAME (a mediocre one at that), and in light of a friend's real life devastating loss and hell that they are going through, I have not one damn thing to complain about and I should STFU. Immersing myself into Middle Earth is therapeutic. The stresses of relief ebb away while you join forces with your comrades to kill or be killed. The combination of zen like "living within the moment' while battling it out is mind numbingly addicting. Yes their are and will be other games, but they won't be LOTR Conquest. The majority of my on line friends have come from this game. This is the only game that I don't totally suck at. This is the only game I want to play. Yeah sad, but true. Perhaps the Gaming Gods would smile down upon us and bestow another 'Precious" game like my beloved LOTR Conquest when the Hobbit movie comes out next year. It's going to be one helluva long wait.........

Sigh..I also have been feeling a little more moody lately..it just sucks to even think that LOTR is going to be over so so soon I've met so many great people here and it just sucks knowing that soon LOTR will be all over..nothing will ever be compared to LOTR

"EVERYTHING CAT-TOOTH HAS SAID" -it's scary how similar i'm feeling to everything you've said, psn vs real friends, moodiness, using the game as stress relief after work, etc. I like the cheers reference, dhampird, it really does have that feel. Hope to see you all on the battlefield!

SIGH... It's time, I suppose, to say goodbye to the only game I ever liked playing vs mode online. I just wish I'd know about this community before they announced the game was getting the axe.

redwurd, myself and my two boys (10,8) will miss seeing you in the game. The game meant a lot to my family. We enjoyed the movies and thought the online game experience was a great brawl.
Not being able to run a public server on PS 3 is ridiculous. I thought we'd at least be able to do that. EA could have at least provided a patch to allow us to play without their servers.

Don't worry Horse. I'll still come and visit you. Even if it's just in story mode. And hey! Maybe you could get a job being a horse in another video game! Maybe you could be that fire-breathing horse in Darksiders! I think they even have an alien horse in Avatar!!! ;D
