As you all know, the end is finally upon us. Ever since the servers went down on the day I came to refer to as Black Saturday, I have been fearing and dreading the true end which we knew would eventually come. Now it is here. And while I knew it was likely coming, I have to admit that I was caught a little off guard when the news finally came. I knew something like this would happen someday. But I didn't think that it would be this week... I never expected to be so affected by this game. Not when I first got it. And not now that it is coming to an end. I have not been taking it well, to say the least. I have been moody and irritable, actually more like depressed. I've been snapping at my friends and co-workers.. even more than usual... I feel like the specter of doom is hanging over me. Like someone in my family has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and been given a month to live. For many of us LOTR has been much more than just a game. It became a way of life. It is a sport and we are the best in the world at it. And for some of us playing it has changed us in ways that we will notice for years to come. I feel like I'm writing a eulogy, and I guess I am. But WTF. The world we live in is literallycoming to an end. I don't think I'm really in the mood to party... We have managed to pull together a very diverse and colorful group both through playing and through these forums. Not everybody has always gotten along, but the one thing that we all always had in common was our love for this game. Hopefully some of what we built here will survive after EA pulls the plug, but in the meantime, if anyone would like to come in here and vent, freak out, wallow in despair, curse EA, the reviewers, the consumers, the defectors to other games, and the world at large... my office is always open. Who knows, maybe eventually we'll even find something to be happy about in this cold miserable world that won't have a Lord of the Rings.............

Yeah, it's the same for me cat-tooth. I have been a little moody as well, getting angry at things I usually wouldn't care about. Life without LOTR will never be the same for me. I just hope I will find a game that I enjoy as much as LOTR. This isn't the end of my life or anything, but I love the game so much.

It would be different if there was something else comparable that I could use as a substitute but, as far as I've seen, there isn't... There is no other online multiplayer game that I've seen where you can be a warrior and charge into battle like LOTR. I've always compared it to a mosh pit with swords (or with ctr, football with swords ;D ). All there is is 50 different basically identical 1st person shooters.. Laaaaaaaaaame..................... I work all night and it is some bullshit. When I come home I want to be able to blow off steam by jumping into the nightly battle. We've held our own little Ragnarok every night in here for the last year. I don't know what I can use to take the place of that...

sigh..... I find myself in a general mood of DEPISSED (depressed that I'm pissed, and pissed that I'm depressed). LOTR Conquest was my first foray into on line gaming. After a few initial scary times with OMG I'M A NOOB!!! I started to get comfortable being a hobbity ho (now I hate the sniping little buggers) rallying to SAVE the SHIRE!!! Archer put on the mage robes and started to enjoy the power of it all. Mage was chastised into seeing how much spamming was ruining the game and told to diversify dammit! So the sword was picked up, albeit reluctantly, and after multiple kicks to my ass (gawd I still have a way to go) the thrill of rushing headlong into a harem of mages with flaming sword is one helluva sexy way to warrior! Scout sadly is still a long way off if ever. So sigh....... Cat & Crohn I totally dig what you're saying & I'm feeling the same specter of doom hanging over me. There is no other game right now that does it for me. LOTR Conquest is my first love in on line gaming, and I am so afraid that it has ruined any other games for me.

They still need to keep the central server(s) up if you want to create servers or private matches. The announcement says they're shutting down online services which means everything.

Everything? Meaning the on line co-op and friends server?

Yeah I think online co-op and friend servers are going out too. If anyone from EA actually starts responding to our queries, then let's ask them.
When it comes down to it, the most important things in life are your family and your friends. It would be a flat lie if I said that my Conquest friends are not "real" friends. I used to think that was the case, but I've changed my mind since this game. In-game voice chat makes a big difference in that while you can't see people's faces, you come to recognize everyone's voice and manner. It's not anonymous.. in fact it's much warmer than the conversation you'd have with someone at the bus stop or maybe even your next-door neighbor. I may not be able to lend you a cup of sugar, but I've probably got a lot more to say to you than most of the people I meet in a day.
I don't think we should let it all go on the 16th; let's keep these forums open and play some other games together if nothing else.
