I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that Gamespot gave their Game of the Year Award to Demon's Souls.
It is a very engaging game where the stress level is very high. It's online components are very innovative and extremely useful.
I think that it's a very good choice if a bit unorthodox. Everyone should try this game (even if it's extremely hard).

Now if only I had a PS3. Sounds like an epic game though.

^I heard it has co-op, but I'm pretty sure It pairs you up with someone randomly.

It has a very interesting form of multiplayer.
The first feature is that you can leave messages to other players. If other players find your message good, they can approve it. This heals you and the message lasts longer.
The second feature is that when you die, you leave a patch of blood on the ground. Other players can activate these and see the last few seconds of life of the character. This can give invaluable information on things that are coming up.
The third feature involves seeing other players as ghostly images for a few seconds.
The last feature involves having other players in your game. There are 2 possibilities and each of them involves players who are in ghost form. The first one is that a player of a sufficient level can invade your world for some pvp. If they can kill you, they get back to their world with full life. The second one is that you can invite players who have set a special stone into your game. If you manage to kill the end level boss, the other players get back to their world with full life. Each player then grades the others. Before inviting these other players, you can see which level they are, how many times they got into coop and the grades they received from other players.
