So, I'm attending the Vanderbilt College of Arts and Science, which is a liberal arts college so we have to take a bunch of courses in different subjects. One of the things all first year students (freshmen) are required to take is a first year writing seminar, although which particular class (seminar) we choose is up to us.
So, I chose one that was supposed to be about mmorpgs and their place as a story telling medium and stuff like that. One of the cool things about it is that we'll be playing an mmo as part of the course, but I figured that it would be some crappy free online one. Turns out I was wrong...
I had my first class today and we'll be playing...LOTR online! Not only that, but as homework we have to watch the first lotr movie (fellowship), and throughout the course we will be reading the first book, and comparing the three mediums (text, film, game).
FUCKING WIN.

Red, I wouldn't mind a philosphy and physcology class... I've alway wanted to learn about how the mind works. Also, I would love to study philosophy, I like too see how people answer these questions.

Yash, Plato's Republic and within it: the Allegory of the Cave is Philosophy 101. It is often regarded as a foundation for a Utopian society. The Cave presents, most of Plato's philosophical assumptions: that the world revealed by our senses is not the real world, but only a poor copy of it, & that the real world lies within the intellect. Plato believed that knowledge could not be transferred from teacher to student, but education was to directing student's minds towards what is real & important & to allow the student to think for themselves. He believed that the universe was ultimately good, & his convictions that enlightened individuals had an obligation to the rest of society, and that a good society must be one in which the truly wise (the Philosopher King) are the rulers. 'better to be the poor servant of a poor master, and to endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner" Psychology eh "if it's not one thing it's your mother!"

btw, if anyone wants to keep up with me, all the readings we have (except the fellowship of the ring) can be found online through this page: worldsofwordcraft.wordpress.com/syllabus-2009/It's interesting stuff on game theory and how games relate to the real world. We could discuss it, or you could just read it for pure enjoyment as I'm doing.

I know I'm older than you, but come on, old people don't always call anything that even looks like a video game "the nintendo" with you, too?
