Basically I'm looking for something 1tb or larger to play ps3 backups off of. I don't know what I should be looking for in terms of brand, price, or specs. Any advice?

LOL late reply but...
I use a seagate 1.5 terrabyte hard drive that I've formatted to FAT32 for ease of use with my PS3. It's reliable and not as glitchy as previous external hard drives I've bought (there've been a few).
Although they look prettier, I'd stay away from any Western Digital products. I've had two WD external HDs that have been bricked, one cos I knocked it slightly, the other from overheating (yet it didn't have any air vents on the HD - I call design flaw!)
Look out for: - Wear and tear factor - Heating vents - Transfer cache size - Service warranty
You're able to get 1TB HDs that are USB powered, I'd stay away from these. I'd personally only get them if I have a USB 3.0 port, less risk of burning out the USB port.
