well i guess ill add on to jeneaz's topic here he has a lot of good stuff for how to use a scout in combat. i feel though you need to also know how to play the match your playing as so ill add how to use a scout in TDM CTR and Conquest.
but before this ima add one of my fighting mentalities (developed mainly as a scout but used in many other classes as well)
(Mentality - Empty fist)
while fighting this way your pretty much let your opponent beat himself all you do is react to what he/she does anything else is responed by not moving at all to be able to do this you must fufill a few requirements.
1 You must know all the times for executing attacks with each class- ( looking a periods of defenseless within each class) i.e archers back jump, rising characters, switching from guard to movement, inprocess fire wall, after use shockwave, between jump cancels, scouts flying heavy, all of the scouts specials ( with maybe the exception of special triangle since you can stop attacking after the first kick) , the warriors special heavy, and special light attacks.( these are some examples so it isnt every single weak point for every class and i didnt include heros cause i never used them much out side of HTDM Mt doom/ black gate)
2. you need an attension span and know how to evade attacks-.( most of the time you wont be doing anything and really just waiting for your opponent to attack. exp enemy attack< evade counter response to the attack)
3. know your environments- (look at the map occasionaly and make sure you know the areas on the map that will make you stop). rivendel under the bridge from the perspective of tdm its the area right in front of evils spawn point. im pretty sure that most people know theres a land glitch near the first arc ( if your going toward the pond area) which will stop you from moving so take note of places like this) from memory i think osgiliath had one and so did pelenor feilds.
4. emotion/Morale- when i say people will defeat themselves this is usually why they lose the moment they become emotional (forinstance someone backstabed you to the point that you know they are going after you) is the moment they cannot think of the best way to handle the situation. im 100% sure someone is going to come in and say as a response (OMG THAT NOT TRUE FOR mY ANGER oF SS will MAEKS me Play Bettr) in that case this fighting style isnt for your and the person should go play with all the other rage-aholics.
the goal here is to reach a some what rock like mentality in which all you see is yourself, the opponent, the environment and the pink bunny(lol wtf pink bunnies) what i mean is a mental distractor i use pink bunnies so if im getting my ass owned i wont lose myself in a fit ill just think of a pink bunny you may not need a pink bunny but you can use any random/completely distracting item to help you out( some people need it more than others)
im probably missing a key fact in which ill add in a bit cause i need to post this and read it over lol.
ok now to the main event
HOW TO USE THE SCOUT CLASS DEPENDING ON WHAT MODE YOUR PLAYING
part 1 normal CONQUEST( typical every day match maybe 1 to 3 good players in the room)
as a scout you have a good advantage here since the main focus on this fight is to capture all the points
How do scouts shine in this mode
1 bs
2 satchel/ mob breaking
3 distraction
4 solitary captures
Indepth look at bs
bs short for back stabbing is one of the most amaing traits a scout can have for conquest since this mode will have mostly movements between boths sides following with a few small to mild fights. Take note on who is playing archer since they are the most threat to you and remove them as fast as possible since its easier to escape a 3 -4 person mob without a poison up your ass , when choosing your bs victims always choose archers first. this is also a matter of opinion per situation you want to go for the more skill full player first (to lower the skill lvl needed to survive)if there are more than three people at a point but if its just 2 people 1 good one not you may or maynot want to hit the good player first( sometimes they know your in the area so removing the random element to the fight makes it easier for you to fight the engament).( ive exhuasted my mind to elaborate on this so ill add more later)
indepth satchel bomb
you can stun people with this for a few seconds to either stall them from joining a group or allowing your allies to bring punishment to them since they are on the ground the angle you use satchel is also good ( i feel when i throw the satchel at an angle that hits their head it does more damage dont know if crit satchel is possible though). now mob control since its a bomb the best place to make it land is in an area with many people or inside a mage's sheild this leaves people vulnerble to your allies and your attacks. aim also for running groups this disorients the group and will take them a bit to reform themselves
in depth distraction-
sometimes as a scout its good to camp at their spawn points ( works better when the other team has 1 point left) the goal of this is to hold the other team till your people arrive at the scene. jumping rolling while you holding 5+ players so pratice containing/ fighting multiple people at the same time. when the other team is aiming for a point try to pull away some of the people at the point by briefly entering then running way ( maybe 2 people will come after you) guard taunts also work well since then people will aim only for you.
in depth solitatry captures
this is one of the best things a scout can do try to find a away to lose anyone that has you on their sight and open the map once you know no one is around. now your looking for where are all the enemies located and what are the areas/ points that have no allies or enemies these are the points you want to go for cloak your way there so now one see's you going to the point and capture while looking at the map to see if anyone is comming your way( if someone does quickly move away if white point hasnt been reached if it has manuver your way to a bs or satchel melee and hope its not a mage .
weaknesses
1 melee
2 enemy awareness
3 mob mentality
in melee- lol a weakness well its not, more of its horrible that people melee in conquest as a scout ( you want to use this as a last resort since scouts have an easier time bringing down points the more time you spend with the person the less time you spend bringing down points) remember people you win conquest by taking all points lol.
enemy awareness- as a scout people are prone to try and look around to see a bs comming so you never want to go towards an opponent facing the direction your comming towards ( running opponents are the only exception) always try to stay as nimble as possible so change how you approach enemies frequently so they dont catch on to your style
Mob mentality (this a strength and weakness)
this is one of the worst things that happen in conquest so dont contribute. safety in numbers can work out well but your team will get routed quickly since the other team will rush all the empty points. It good if the other team does it but if your a scout stay away from your team ( do go to them when you need a heal or you see someone in trouble other than that stay away your team will cause you to die in mob mentality more often than you cause your own death).
CONQUEST advanced ( clan matches gaurentee 8 good players on boths sides)
this throws out many of the scouts uses in conquest but dont lose hope and change classes all you need is a little more attension with a few more shining points
scout shining moments advanced
1 scouting enemy positions via mic
2 white outs/ mid distractions/ delay captures
3 randomness
Scouting positions- Knowing where the other team is going is a good thing so inform your freinds which direction, how many, and what classes they are for them to prepare a good defense create rendezvous points with your allies for effective heals and enemy routing's
WhiteOuts/ mid distractions/ delay captures
your going to assume that distractions will not work most good people know that your only leading them on and will pay you no mind( what can a scout do really? is the mentality)
some of the more kill hungry communty might go after you so take note who will and who wont. WhiteOut are more effective against good players this uses the solitary capture idea from above and expands it more. this will require that you go out and turn the points white as quickly as possible make sure your running while doing this, at the point in circles so once it becomes white you can move on to the next oneonce enough points become white all you need to do is delay captures by rolling in the contorl point if you survive long enough your team will stop them from capturing .( the reason why this is effective in clan matches is that if done properly it can go undetected and its done less frequently) also on a side note (five point matches white out are more effective than four since they will be defending)
Randomness-
people generally think of the scout as only able to melee/bs/ satchel. in which you now have to throw people off. a general randomness like throwing a satchel bomb to nowhere or a random kick can throw people off but make sure not to be so close that someone can hit you random isnt so random if you die
