I actually took a university course that focused specifically on Tolkien. We read Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (which was an inspiration for Tolkien's work), then we read The Hobit and The Lord of the Rings series.
Did you know Tolkien was a linguist? He created the elvish language just for his story. His work didn't stop at the books though. He devoted so much of his life to Lord of the Rings. There are numerous stories about middle earth out there and DETAILED maps. It's crazy!
I'm not obsessed though. Truth is, the only reason I got the game in the first place is because my friend downloaded the demo for himself and bugged me until I tried it. LOL Now I am addicted.

I haven't read all of them, but I had the Hobbit read to me in about 1996(...I read it myself in 2003), much of FotR...then I read it for myself about 2001, TTT 2002, and yes, RotK 2003...each before the movie came out. I tried to read the Silmarillion a few years ago, but left it alone after two chapters..I read the Letters of Tolkien, most of Unfinished Tales, "The shadow of the past"(which is drafts of the first book, by Tolkien) this year, and the Children of Hurin a couple of years ago. Read all of LOTR in about ten days in 2006...yeeeah...I don't get bored with this stuff. I've been reading of just about everything LOTR(Tolkien related, not movies) on the internet for years...
I suppose it isn't surprising I got Conquest right when it came out...?

Yup it's a pretty safe bet to assume everyone here is a LOTR nerd! And to carry the love of Tolkien into the next generation, I am reading the Hobbit to my 10 year old nephew!

Well, hope he enjoys it! Nice that it is still being read to children, as it was first written to be..
